His old gas-permeable contact lenses just didn’t cut it.

Speaking with St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Tommy Pham, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch details how a cornea condition called keratoconus hampered him early in his career until he made an important vision adjustment. The report explains how Pham had difficult tracking the baseball with his gas-permeable contact lenses, which would stick in place and not move with his eyes, causing him to “watch the ball from the blurred edges of the contact.” But ever since he switched to hybrid lenses, “I feel like from then I pretty much took off. ... I definitely became a better hitter with the contacts because I was striking out a lot, a lot,” he says.
