Expenditures for eye diseases and vision problems in the U.S. will reach $717 billion by 2050, with government paying 41 percent of those costs, according to a new report by Prevent Blindness. Women will continue to outnumber men in prevalence of all eye disease and vision loss categories except for diabetic retinopathy, says the report, which breaks down forecasts of vision-related disease by disorder, race, age and sex. Hispanics are projected to exhibit extremely high growth in diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma and cataract cases.
