Every pair sold is one-of-a-kind.
After University of Utah student Spencer Perkins broke three pairs of expensive sunglasses in a year, he decided to save money and create his own replacements -- out of wood. The economy-move has spawned a glasses company, Hatchet Eyewear, that is now raising Kickstarter money to expand into international distribution. Perkins has sold over 2,000 pairs of the sunglasses and uses mostly zebra wood, black walnut, dew wood and ebony wood to create them. “Every single pair of sunglasses is going to be completely different because no wood grain is exactly the same,” he says.
