Kering announced that its Kering Eyewear subsidiary will partner with Maison Cartier on the development, manufacturing and worldwide distribution of the Cartier eyewear collection.
Compagnie Financière Richemont, owner of Maison Cartier, will acquire a minority stake in Kering Eyewear, a specialist company dedicated to the eyewear activity of 12 brands of the Kering Group — Gucci, Bottega Veneta, Saint Laurent, Alexander McQueen, Brioni, Christopher Kane, McQ, Stella McCartney, Tomas Maier, Boucheron, Pomellato and Puma. Kering Eyewear will integrate the Manufacture Cartier Lunettes entity in Sucy-en-Brie, France.
Reuters reports that Richemont's stake in Kering Eyewear will be 30 percent. Other terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The project is subject to clearance by antitrust authorities.
Subject to closing, the Cartier 2018 Spring Summer collection, which will be presented at Silmo in Paris, Oct. 6-9, will mark the official beginning of the partnership.
Paris-based Kering is a luxury group that develops products in fashion, leather goods, jewelry and watches. Its brands include Gucci, Bottega Veneta, Saint Laurent, Alexander McQueen, Balenciaga, Brioni, Christopher Kane, McQ, Stella McCartney, Tomas Maier, Boucheron, Dodo, Girard-Perregaux, Pomellato, Qeelin and Ulysse Nardin.
Kering is also developing sport and lifestyle brands Puma, Volcom and Cobra.
