(Press Release) Bausch + Lomb ULTRA contact lenses for Presbyopia will become available during the second quarter of 2016. The new multifocal lens was specifically designed to combine the company’s innovative 3-Zone Progressive design, found in Biotrue ONEday for Presbyopia daily disposable contact lenses, with the excellent end-of-day comfort of Bausch + Lomb ULTRA contact lenses with MoistureSeal technology.
The announcement of the new Bausch + Lomb ULTRA for Presbyopia lens was shared at a Bausch + Lomb B+Lieve event in Boston, MA at which eye care professionals and vision experts from across the country were educated on the latest innovations in vision care, including MoistureSeal technology, the science behind Bausch + Lomb’s latest breakthrough silicone hydrogel lens.
Bausch + Lomb ULTRA contact lenses with MoistureSeal Technology contain polyvinylpyrrolidone for enhanced wettability and have the highest Dk/t (163) and lowest modulus (70) compared to the leading silicone hydrogel contacts lenses in the market. The lens also has aspheric optics, for exceptional vision even in low light conditions.
“Since the launch of Bausch + Lomb ULTRA in February 2014, eye care professionals have shared remarkable feedback from both their personal and patient experiences,” said Cal Roberts, M.D., chief medical officer, Bausch + Lomb.
“We’re thrilled that we will soon be able to provide eye care professionals with an innovative lens that is designed to have all day comfort and exceptional vision at all distances for their presbyopic patients. The upcoming launch of Bausch + Lomb ULTRA for Presbyopia is also just one example of the product advancements we look forward to delivering to our customers and their patients in 2016, as we continue to build upon the 15+ innovations that we’ve brought to market since 2012.”
Blurred vision can result from a condition known as presbyopia, which becomes more prevalent as our eyes age. Presbyopia impacts the eye’s ability to focus and progresses over time. Initially, some people find that they have to hold reading materials farther away to see them clearly, leading to the need to use multifocal spectacles or contact lenses.
"It is often a challenge to find the right combination of visual clarity and comfort in a contact lens for my patients with presbyopia,” said David Geffen, O.D., from Gordon Schanzlin New Vision Institute in La Jolla, CA.
“I have been extremely pleased with my patient’s experiences with Bausch + Lomb ULTRA contact lenses and I am eagerly looking forward to providing the 3-Zone Progressive design in the new
Bausch + Lomb ULTRA for Presbyopia lens for my presbyopic patients. Allowing my patients to see clearly at all distances and enjoy the same comfort found in the Bausch + Lomb ULTRA contact lenses with MoistureSeal technology will be a welcomed addition in my practice.”
