Shauns California has debuted its collection for Spring 2015.
Handcrafted in Italy utilizing premium Mazzuchelli Italian Acetate and Carl Zeiss Lenses, the latest offering from Shauns draws inspiration from the prosaic romance of a traveling salesman and the brand’s exploration of modern California luxury.
Using playful new colorways along with unique structures and details, the latest offering of five new sun styles and four ophthalmic styles due to hit stores this March is elegant and alluringly mysterious.
Unique structures not normally seen on basic eyewear abound for an extremely modern take in the spring assortment. We see a metal temple design with recessed enamel color fill on the women’s Rona frame and Spey optical style, creating a beautiful balance of material and colors.
An asymmetrical front with a raised right brow on the women’s Tacit caters to a whimsical and eclectic taste, and the front-on silhouette of the unisex More style offers a distinct, alluring template. Featuring a high metal bridge frame between two separate pieces of Acetate, the absence of a traditional nose bridge brings a completely new perspective to a timeless shape.
While past collections have stuck to hues of browns, whites and blacks, Spring 2015 offers a selection of vibrant tortoise shell acetates, as seen in the Rona, Hoy, Annan and Luss styles. Base colors reminiscent of a spring garden, such as cool lavender, leaf green and maya blue, set a cool and collected tone with a mischievous voice.
Gradiated acetate in a deep black cherry makes its debut in this collection as well, flowing from a near black to a classic cherry color in the Carron, Hoy and Spey styles. This gradation technique is also used in a Bistre to topaz blue as seen in the Spey, Annan and Hoy styles. The popular and bold mirrored lens is back in multiple colors – silver, pink and blue – as well as in two different treatments.
The “Super” family of mirrors is a multi-layered mirror for a strong highly reflective mirror effect (seen in Blue and Silver in the collection). A lighter “flash” application is used for a more subtle mirror effect with a greater degree of translucency (seen in a pink color in the collection).
“I imagine a handsome young man experiencing the freedom of travel and the emotional journey of learning to charm the amazing women that he meets along the way,” explains Founder/Creative Director, Shaun Paterson about the inspiration for the Spring 2015 collection. “The eyewear is an expression of these two journeys, as it is an integral part of the uniform for this gentleman. For the ladies collection it was about representing the position of strength they occupy in this dynamic but also the genuine intrigue they create in him.”
As with each collection, Shauns California remains dedicated to their core mission to eradicate avoidable blindness through their “Give Sight” program. With each pair of glasses sold, Shauns will sponsor an eye exam and donate a pair of vision glasses to someone in a developing country. A single braille “S,” embedded in each style embodies the Shauns mantra of a “Soulful Luxury” and is meant to serve as a reminder of the inherent good within the human spirit to the wearer.
The Spring 2015 Shauns California collection will be available starting from March 2015 at select Neiman Marcus locations and eyewear boutiques worldwide, as well as on ShaunsCalifornia.com. Prices for the collection range from $260-$305.
