Florida Optical Facility Set to Shed 63 Workers


Outsourcing cited as one reason for layoffs.

In the wake of a corporate acquisition, the Miami-area facility Insight Optical Manufacturing Company of Florida is going to lay off 63 workers, the Miami Herald reports. In regulatory filings, the Hialeah, Florida, company cites "outsourcing of certain functions and a corporate restructuring" as reasons for the layoffs. Affected employees include factory workers, supervisors, security guards and customer service representatives. The article says that according to corporate records, Insight Optical's CEO is CEO of optical chain For Eyes, which Netherlands-based optical retailer Grand Vision acquired last year.
