Peter Duncan grew tired of losing his sunglasses — “hundreds of dollars” worth, over time — in the creek near his home in Wilmington, NC. So Duncan, a carpenter and craftsman, made some wooden frames that float, the Star News reports. Now he’s selling the handmade shades through Legacy Eyewear, a company he started several months ago. The idea is that people who enjoy outdoor activities will no longer have to dive in if they drop their sunglasses in the water. He uses various types of wood from along the East Coast. His sunglasses are available at several stores in Wilmington, and he’s funding his new line through Kickstarter, with the products available to investors.
