Intel’s New Tiny Chip Set for Smartglass Future

Intel, which introduced a fingernail-size micro-computer at the Consumer Electronics Show last week, will team up with Oakley and Luxottica to introduce a line of smart eyewear employing the device. The unit, powered by a chip called Curie, also includes Bluetooth, long-life battery and even a special “classification engine” that can determine what kind of sporting activity a user is engaged in. “This changes the game of wearables,” promised Intel CEO Brian Krzanich. And in a statement likely to get a few optical retail hearts a-beatin’, Oakley CEO Colin Baden added, “We can compress this technology into a beautifully designed set of glasses.”
