Ophthalmologist Helps Close 9-Year Murder Case That Almost Went Cold

The work of ophthalmologist Charles Zwerling in Goldsboro, NC was key in helping catch a murder suspect who nearly got away for good, Buzzfeed explains. The report says that 26-year-old Janet Abaroa was stabbed to death in 2005, but after a local detective reviewed the evidence once more five years later, Zwerling was called in to examine the contact lenses on the corpse, which turned up the circumstantial evidence needed to coax a plea out of the suspect. “This was one of those needle-in-a-haystack cases,” he says.
