Pinterest and Instagram announce new purchase links.

Several social media giants are rapidly adding ways to let users buy merchandise digitally. Pinterest has announced that it will sell “buyable pins” to merchants who want to make their inventories available on the photo-sharing service. “The company said buyable pins would launch on the Pinterest iOS app for U.S. users this month. They would be available on Android and desktop later this year,” reports the Wall Street Journal. Similarly, Instagram says it will begin testing a new ad format that allows retailers to add purchase links. Google earlier announced that it will add a “buy” button to search results, and Facebook and Twitter are testing e-commerce additions to their apps.
