Prevent Blindness Names Michael Block as 2016 Person of Vision Award Recipient

(Press Release) CHICAGO – Prevent Blindness, a volunteer eye health and safety organization dedicated to fighting blindness and saving sight, has chosen Michael Block of Block Business Group as the recipient of its 2016 Person of Vision Award. The award will be presented on April 14 at the Prevent Blindness Person of Vision Dinner at the Lotte New York Palace, New York City, in conjunction with Vision Expo East.

The Prevent Blindness Person of Vision Award recognizes an individual or organization whose inspired outlook champions healthy vision and its importance for a healthy life. In 1972, Block began his career as an independent licensed optician. In 1983, he started Block Buying Group, and in 1991, he founded Block Vision. Today, Block is president of Block Business Group, a purchasing group and practice management organization for independent eyecare professionals in Boca Raton, Fla.

At Prevent Blindness, Block has served as the co-chair of the Prevent Blindness Swing Fore Sight committee for the past two years.

“For decades, Michael Block has demonstrated his commitment to providing eyecare professionals with the resources and services they need to provide the best care for their patients and help them see clearly,” said Hugh R. Parry, president and CEO of Prevent Blindness. “We invite everyone to come help us celebrate him and his dedication to healthy vision at our Person of Vision Award dinner.”

The chairperson of the 2016 Prevent Blindness Person of Vision Committee is Andy Alcorn, chairman at Superior Vision. Individual tickets for the event may be purchased for $350, or $3,500 for a table of 10.

Block Business Group is serving as the Silver Sponsor and the reception will be sponsored by VSP. Early table sponsorship commitments have been received by The Vision Council, Visibility Management and Jobson. Additional sponsorship opportunities of varying levels are available. All proceeds from the event will go to support the sight-saving programs from Prevent Blindness.
