Obviously no place of business should have a bathroom that is anything less than hygienic and pleasant to be in. But going the extra mile and presenting a bathroom that’s especially welcoming or memorable gives your business some extra personality and sends a message that your concern for your patients extends beyond their optical needs. Thanks to the following nine bathrooms or fixtures, these eyecare businesses demonstrate daily to their clients that they make it a priority to get the little things right.

“Making the necessary nice,” is how Dr. Barton Parker of Vision Source-Fox Optical in Lake Worth, FL, defines his bathroom philosophy, and that could sum up all the facilities featured in this gallery. Three things to point out here: first, the vinyl wall decal is sharp. Second, the place looks spotless, as any bathroom should. Third, why not include a few informational pieces of product literature in your bathroom? Catching someone’s eye with attractive marketing about new contact lens choices or featured frame lines might prompt an inquiry or two in the exam room or dispensary.

How’s this for some bathroom braggadocio from co-owner Steve Nelson at Eye Candy Optical in Westlake, OH? “We have the best bathroom in the optical world complete with club style lighting, techno music, and a huge mirror with eyes etched into the back of it.” According to Nelson, the specification Eye Candy sent their designer was “Give us a bathroom that rock stars would have sex in.” From the patient’s perspective, if you’re putting this much energy into your bathroom, your eyecare must be spectacular.

The den-like retreat at I2I Optique in Scottsdale, AZ features real rock walls and ceiling, and looks more like something you’d see in a hip nightclub than an optical shop. Says owner Sabina Krasnov: “They say when you have an amazing bathroom, you will have a successful business.”

Simple touches can take your bathroom up a notch. Here’s a nod to the lovely bathroom at Lynn Valley Optical in North Vancouver, BC, where the little luxuries include beautiful artwork, hand lotion and a pyramid of fresh hand towels for their guests’ use.

Of the clever bathroom door sign at Oakland Vision Center Optometry in Oakland, CA, Dr. Tanya Gill told us, “We got this awesome reclaimed wood bathroom sign on Etsy. It was a nice update to the beige plastic placard.”

According to optician Cheryl Aparo, the wallpaper at Ocean Optical in Gloucester, MA “is fun and gets our customers talking.”

Eyes on You is located in Seattle, Washington’s Grand Colonial building, one of the city’s original hotels. The practice developed a theme (described by marketing manager Karen Barnes as “a vintage speakeasy-esque style”) that worked with the unique history of the building—a feel that extends into the handsome washroom.

Presenting fine eyewear is an art form at Optical Arts in Toledo, OH, and the attention to detail doesn’t stop at the door to their fun, artsy lavatory, which keeps customers focused on eyewear for just as long as it takes them to take care of business.

And an honorable mention must go to The Eye Doctors in Tampa, FL (who freely credit that the idea for this decal—which went viral on optical social media pages a while back—was borrowed from Dr. Tavel’s Eyecare in Indianapolis, IN, with permission). Here’s a bathroom door that puts an age-old optometric question in a wholly new context.
