Could Amazon Acquire Warby Parker Next?

At least one analyst thinks it could.

Amazon, which announced last week that it will acquire grocer Whole Foods Market Inc., could target a company such as Warby Parker for its next deal, in one analyst’s view.

Tom Forte, managing director of the Maxim Group, shared his views on the issue with CNBC. He listed Warby Parker and athletic apparel retailer Lululemon among the possibilities for Amazon’s next acquisition.

Such a deal “checks boxes like apparel, physical stores, being a lifestyle category — all things that Amazon wants to accomplish in a takeover now,” CNBC writes, citing Forte.

Amazon hasn’t publicly shown interest in either of the companies, according to the report.

Some other companies that might make good acquisition targets for Amazon are online clothing retailer Everlane and warehouse retailer BJ’s Wholesale Club.

Warby Parker made its mark as an e-commerce retailer but has since 2013 been opening physical stores. In January the company said it planned to open 25 stores in 2017.

Warby Parker Co-CEO Neil Blumenthal has said it’s possible his company will one day operate between 800 and 1,000 stores.
