Do You Or Don’t You: Play Music in Your Business?

Not only does the staff enjoy music but so do our patients. We play The Bridge from Sirius XM which is soft pop and rock bridging the gaps between 1960-1990s. So something for everyone. Jeff Grosekemper, Casa De Oro Eyecare, Spring Valley, CA

My office is small and I need background music to help with privacy. I play an iPod with a mix of songs from Josh Groban to U2. Dr. Kim Riggs, Ligonier PA

We play everything from reggae to soft rock depending on the employees’ choice for the day. We play music in the store for background effect. On some occasions we can see the customers bobbing their heads and tapping their feet to a particular song. Todd Lapointe, VIP Eyes, Portland, ME

I read a study that slower music causes customers to stay longer and spend more. We play Pandora’s Relaxation station. Dr. Maria Higgins, Unique Optique, Frederick, MD

We play music a bit louder than a doctor’s office. We also have a music area as the owner teaches performance after hours. It’s cool because there are a lot of people who are connected with music and it can make faster friends. Steve Whitaker, Whitaker Eye Works, Wayne, PA

I find it lightens the mood of the guests to hear the music that they want to hear. For that reason we ask our guests what specific music they would like to hear as we get seated in the examination room. We then record that information so the next time they come in to the office we go back to the station on Pandora we know they liked the last time they were in. Dr. Ted McElroy, Vision Source-Tifton, Tifton, GA

Yes! A store playlist on the iPod that has lots of Harry Connick, PHOX, Madeleine Peyroux and Norah Jones. Maybe a little Willie Nelson in there for fun. Oh, and Squirrel Nut Zippers. Can’t forget them! Nikki Griffin, EyeStyles Optical & Boutique, Oakdale, MN

My husband, the doc, creates our playlists. We have everything from 1940s to modern music including jazz standards and light pop. The staff gives feedback and so far it has been positive although we had to ask him to remove Captain Beefheart! Cindy Harmon, Sonoma Eyeworks, Santa Rosa, CA

Our store isn’t wired for music. Corporate will not allow us to play music on the floor, although we do play it inside our lab. <b?Brian Lennon, National Vision, Dickson City, PA

Building structure creates radio dead zone. XM signals are also not good. Dr. Robert Johnson, Johnson Family Eye Care, Latrobe, PA
