Economic Uncertainty on the Rise and More of What You Need to Know for October

Consumer Anxiety Over Tariffs

Optimove Insights has released new findings showing that American consumers are increasingly concerned about the impact of tariffs on their spending power. Data from a recent survey of 1,066 U.S. consumers, aged 18–65 with household incomes over $75,000 on summer, back-to-school, and pre-holiday shopping periods, revealed a consistent theme: 81.4% of shoppers are worried about tariffs, and 80.5% concerned about inflation. “Now more than ever, consumers feel economic pressures. Marketers need agility and empathy to respond in real time. Brands must acknowledge financial anxiety through supportive, empathic messaging.” optimove.com

Vision Council Research Points to Uncertainty

The Vision Council’s newly published Consumer inSights Q2 2025 report highlights U.S. adults’ views and behaviors on a range of vision-related issues. Findings show that consumer out-of-pocket spending patterns saw modest changes in Q2, suggesting price sensitivity across several vision care products and services. “This quarter marks a potential turning point in consumer behavior,” said Alysse Henkel, Vice President of Research and inSights at The Vision Council. “For the first time, we’re seeing indications that broader economic uncertainty, particularly ongoing trade negotiations and tariff concerns, may be influencing how consumers allocate their spending on vision care.” thevisioncouncil.org/research-reports
