NOW IS THE TIME TO SURVIVE (AND THRIVE)

By sharing smart ideas and good practices, eyecare professionals can conquer any obstacle.

i’ve had three eye exams in three different offices over the past few years. Only one of the docs — the third — recommended that, as someone who spends all day on the computer, I really could benefit from a separate pair of glasses.

While I was still in the exam chair, he had me hold a laminated card screen-distance away so I could see the difference computer lenses would make. Then he walked me out to the dispensing optician with the advice that she fit me for both new everyday distance glasses and another frame with lenses optimized for my office work.

When I related this to Christie Walker of the Optical Women’s Association, she said, “You need to put that in your story.” I wasn’t aware I was doing market research, but it turns out I am personal proof that most eye docs — two out of three in my instance — still don’t tell patients that one-size-fits-all rarely applies when it comes to eyewear. And as Christie says in our “Look Forward” feature this issue, that’s money walking out the door.

INVISION is here for one reason: to help you serve your customers better and, as a result, have a more successful practice. Industry trends are daunting, yet we know that by sharing ideas and reminding one another of best practices, ECPs can survive and thrive amid everything that’s driving you crazy, whether it’s online competition or the latest vision care plan changes.
