He bought his own pair for $15,000 after donations came pouring in to the family.

Born without an optic nerve that left him legally blind, 12-year-old Christopher Ward Jr. recently saw his mother for the first time thanks to a pair of eSight electronic glasses, the New York Daily News writes. The article says that until now he could see colors and shapes, but making out images – on the TV, for example – required him to sit with his nose to the screen. That’s the problem eSight solves with its electronic glasses, which use a “high-speed camera to record video live and then display it on LED screens located right in front of the wearer’s eyes.”

At first, the mother was skeptical the glasses would work for her son, but her doubt was dispelled after young Christopher saw her for the first time during an hour-long demo session. The Wards then learned that the glasses cost $15,000, but after ABC News aired the below video segment, a flood of donations came pouring in that easily covered the price tag.
