Eye Docs Band Together to Cover Chart-Topping Tunes

Add an engineer and a nearsighted vocalist and you have a popular local sextet.

Four eye doctors, a near-sighted singer and an engineer make up 20/20, which has been entertaining local audiences around Hickory NC since 2008. The group’s fan base contains several patients – “They love it,” says drummer Dr. Trey Oursler – and even a groupie or two. “This one lady kept jumping up on stage, and I think it took three times before they finally arrested her and police took her away,” says Allen Finley. It was Oursler who first suggested the band, which specializes in Top 40 covers, after he and Finley bonded over AC/DC music. “The reason it works is because we’re not looking for any fame and fortune,” says Finley of the group. “We’re just doing this to have fun. It’s a passion for all of us. That takes the edge off – not being under pressure.”
