(PRESS RELEASE) MASON, OH — In recognition of August as National Children’s Eye Health and Safety Month and to kick-off back-to-school season, EyeMed Vision Care has launched a distinct series of interactive vision curriculum kits designed to immerse grade school children in the world of vision.

The first available kit in the series, Anatomy of the Eye, aims to guide students in understanding the different structures of the eye and how each works together to help us see. The kit also includes tips for keeping eyes healthy and learning activities designed to encourage retention. Three additional kits will be released later this year: Common Vision Conditions, Lens Technology: The Science of Refraction, and Eye Exams & Your Eye Doctor.

With the launch, EyeMed is thrilled to donate 20,000 vision curriculum kits to several grade schools around the Ohio region.

“Children’s vision can change rapidly as they grow and develop, and it’s important to make sure they understand that having healthy eyes will help them perform their best in and outside of the classroom”, said Matt MacDonald, president of EyeMed Vision Care. “The curriculum kits are designed to be a fun and educational way to prepare them for their comprehensive eye exam, learn how their eyes function, and hopefully inspire them to want to become the next generation of eye care professionals.”

The vision curriculum kits are a great complement to school curriculum, but they’re also a fun way to engage kids while they’re in the waiting room preparing for an appointment with their eye doctor.

To facilitate that experience and support the work eyecare professionals are already doing to educate consumers on the importance of eye exams, EyeMed is enabling eyecare professionals to request printed vision curriculum kits for use in their practices at no cost. Printed quantities are limited and can be ordered here starting on August 5, 2024. Free, digital versions of the kits are available on the site now for download.

“Our mission is to elevate the way vision care is perceived and ensure people of all ages understand the important role our eyes play in maintaining good overall health and quality of life. This initiative brings us one step closer to seeing our mission come to life,” says MacDonald.
