The company is developing ‘smart glasses.’

Details of a Facebook “smart glasses” project that is currently underway are starting to trickle out.

Business Insider recently reported on a patent application that was filed in connection with the project. The patent would be for a “waveguide display with two-dimensional scanner” developed by Oculus, a Facebook subsidiary.INVISION facebookglasses

The display “may augment views of a physical, real-world environment with computer-generated elements,” according to the application. It also “may be included in an eye-wear comprising a frame and a display assembly that presents media to a user’s eyes.”

The Daily Mail notes that the technology would “project light onto the wearer’s eyes to show images and video.” In that sense the technology would be akin to the Microsoft HoloLens AR headset as well as to eyewear being worked on by Magic Leap, a company that Google is backing, according to the Daily Mail.

Business Insider reports that Facebook officials would not comment for its story.
