First U.S. Eyecare Registry Launches with 5 Million Records

The American Academy of Ophthalmology has launched the first comprehensive eye-disease-and-condition registry in the United States. The Intelligent Research in Sight Registry (IRIS) compiles patient data from electronic health records and performs statistical analysis that enables ophthalmologists to improve patient care, reduce the cost and enhance the speed of large clinical trials, assist in monitoring resource utilization, comply with federal payment programs and enhance practice quality and efficiency. Some 2,300 physicians in 47 states are currently using the registry, which currently holds more than 5 million patient records.
