One possibility for the future as Essilor and Luxottica merge is “investing in the doctor alliances,” an Essilor official said.
The goal would be to increase efficiency in the industry, said Daniel Liberman, Essilor’s senior vice president of strategic initiatives, according to Healio.
Liberman and other Essilor executives spoke recently at a press conference at Vision Expo East in New York.
He’s quoted saying: “We will work with our independent partners to create efficiency and enhance their capabilities.”
He said that all too often, eyecare providers perform an exam but then don’t end up selling the patient a pair of glasses. Typically the reason is that the provider doesn’t have the frame that the consumer wants, he said.

Together the companies hope to avoid such situations by creating systems that flow more smoothly.
France-based Essilor, which makes lenses as well as instruments and equipment, and Milan, Italy-based Luxottica said in January they would merge to form EssilorLuxottica.
