His Name is Ubiquitous to the Pages of INVISION Magazine and Yet He Remains a Mystery
Heath Burslem
INVISION Staff Writer-at-Large

I’m the media version of an “army brat.” My dad was a wandering reporter, working all over Australia and for a decade in L.A. I’ve spent most of my adult life working for newspapers in Asia, but joining an optical magazine has been an eye opener (sorry, I learned early that ECPs love their eye puns!). It’s been an education, hearing from you all about your struggles and victories in eyecare, business, and life, and trying to get them down on paper. ECPs have a lot to stress about, but they can be thankful that doesn’t include multiple monthly story deadlines. When my laptop fizzes out as I’m about to hit “save,” I’ll jump on my bicycle and zone out to Krautrock to cool down. I’ve also taken a belated stab at cooking, eating right and meditation (“Grow up, clean up and wake up,” as the Buddhists say); and have been trying to learn Khmer, my girlfriend’s language. Southeast Asian temples are a favorite travel destination. When all else fails, I sit on the steps and watch my dog and two cats wrestling, which always does the trick to relieve stress.

Heath has been writing for INVISION for five years and despite the ubiquity of his byline he remains an enigma to most readers. We thought it time you all get to know this international man of mystery a bit more … in his own words.
