Hurricane Looter Stole $145K of Sunglasses, Police Say

Police in Port Orange, FL, say a 34-year-old man stole $145,000 worth of sunglasses from a local store during Hurricane Irma.

Harold Hall allegedly took the merchandise from Sunglass World in the Pavilion shopping center, the Daytona Beach News-Journal reports.

He stands charged with burglary as well as “grand theft over $100,000, possession of burglary tools, resisting without violence and criminal mischief with enhanced penalties due to a state of emergency,” according to the newspaper.

Hall is accused of using a hammer to break the store’s merchandise cases.

Police say the store manager saw the crime on surveillance video from Seminole County. The store is located in Volusia County.

He called police, who responded quickly and arrested Hall after a short chase, the newspaper reports.
