Comments on Current Events

Sometimes changes in the industry seem to paint an impossibly gloomy picture of the future, yet we manage. We succeed by making personal connections with our patients, and that is how we will survive the current forces pounding our profession. The human touch cannot be digitized, merged or downsized; take comfort in that. Paul Londraville, In Focus Eyewear, Greensboro, NC

The industry always presents us with new challenges. We must be flexible and ready to move in a direction the consumer will embrace. Bob McBeath, Edina Eye, Edina, MN

I’m torn by the laws of optometry in California limiting the amount of offices one can own. Part of me wants to see them lifted so we can start our own empire, but the other part appreciates that it limits retail optometry in saturated areas. Josh Bladh, Dr. Bladh OD, Diamond Bar, CA

I’m saddened by the trend toward corporate ownership, cheaper prices and lower quality service because I think our patients and the professionals serving them miss out on so much, but I embrace it as a way to stand out from the crowd. Brenda Smoke, OD, Smoke Vision Care, Buchanan, MI
