INVISION Magazine Earns Awards for Overall Quality and Feature Writing

We love featuring the exploits of eyecare professionals in the pages of INVISION Magazine and here online.

In fact, we wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for you!

However, about once a year or so, we turn the attention on ourselves. We can’t help it. We’re just too excited not to share the good news.

INVISION took home a pair of accolades at the 2022 TABPI Awards. Our February 2021 issue of the magazine placed fourth in the competition’s premiere category – Best Single Issue. INVISION Editor-in-Chief Dee Carroll also earned honorable mention in the feature article category for her cover story piece entitled “Could You Be an Assassin?” in our March 2021 issue.

Sister publication VMSD, which covers store designs and retail industry trends, scored the biggest prize of the competition: A first place finish in the Best Single Issue category for its April 2021 issue.

In all, our parent company, SmartWork Media, hauled in 10 honors. Including VMSD’s first-place win, and INVISION’s fourth-place mention, a record total of five SmartWork Media publications placed in the Top 25 for Best Single Issue — with Signs of the Times coming in sixth place (September 2021 issue), INSTORE 11th (June 2021), and PETS+ 22nd (July-August 2021).

“It’s extremely gratifying that so many of our publications ranked amongst the elite in this highly competitive category,” says SmartWork Media publisher and CEO, Matthijs Braakman. “It’s a powerful statement of how hard we work to create high-impact, consumer-quality print products for all of our audiences.”

TABPI judges complimented VMSD’s winning April 2021 issue, saying “The entire issue is clean and easy to navigate. The magazine is cohesive without being repetitive. The cover and [table of contents] are also exquisite.”

VMSD (Visual Merchandising + Store Design) was founded in 1897 by American literary icon L. Frank Baum – author of the all-time classic novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz — and became part of SmartWork Media’s lineup of business-to-business vertical media products in October 2020.

Other SmartWork Media top award winners included INSTORE’s Eileen McClelland, who won a bronze Best How-To Article award for her March 2021 feature, “Building the Perfect Website”; and design editor Victor Cantal, who won bronze in the Feature Design category for his work on “Future Proofing/Designer Dozen” in VMSD (April 2021).

Additionally, McClelland received an honorable mention in the COVID-19 Coverage category for her article “Lessons Learned” in the October 2021 issue of INSTORE. The Signs of the Times staff also earned honorable mention in the feature article category for “40 Awesome Things About Being a Sign Pro” in their July 2021 issue.

With 10 awards so far in 2022, SmartWork Media has now earned a total of 167 awards for print and digital media — giving the group one of the highest ratios of awards per title in all of B2B publishing.

“Our editorial teams continue to do amazing work in every market we cover,” says David Squires, group editorial director. “Our mission is to create business publications that don’t feel like work to read, that readers are actually excited to see arrive in their mailboxes. We appreciate the TABPI judges recognizing all the hard work our teams put into making that magic happen.”

Based in Cleveland, Trade, Association and Business Publications International (TABPI) is a global organization that unites B2B writers, editors, and designers working for English-language publications around the common goal of promoting editorial ethics and excellence.
