INVISION: Timeless EYEdentity uniquely blends opticianry with the entertainment industry. How did you identify this niche, and what challenges and opportunities have you encountered in providing eyewear solutions for film and television productions?
L.C. ATKINS: The niche emerged naturally from a passion for both opticianry and storytelling. I noticed a gap in authentic, character-driven eyewear on screen—where glasses often seemed like an afterthought rather than an integral part of a role. The challenge lies in balancing visual authenticity with on-set practicality, such as providing the proper anti-reflective coating to decrease the amount of color reflection under studio lighting.
INVISION: Your journey includes building a bespoke optical finishing laboratory and private dispensary. How has this hands-on approach influenced the quality and customization of the eyewear you provide to clients?
ATKINS: This hands-on approach ensures each piece is crafted with intention and has allowed me to maintain complete control over quality and precision.
INVISION: As an educator and advocate, you’re involved with several professional organizations. How do these roles inform your practice, and what initiatives are you most passionate about in advancing the field of opticianry?

ATKINS: Being involved with professional organizations keeps me closely connected to industry standards, developments and emerging best practices. I’m very passionate about initiatives that elevate education, promote diversity and expand public awareness about the field of opticianry.
INVISION: The concept of ‘EYEdentity’ seems central to your work. Can you elaborate on how you help clients, whether in entertainment or everyday life, express their identity through eyewear?
ATKINS: Absolutely—’EYEdentity’ is about using eyewear as a form of self-expression. Whether I’m working with an actor to define a character or helping someone choose frames for daily wear, the goal is always the same: to reflect who they are—or who they aspire to be!
INVISION: Looking ahead, what innovations or trends do you foresee shaping the future of opticianry, and how are you preparing to integrate them into your practice and educational efforts?
ATKINS: Technology-driven personalization like 3D facial scanning, AI-assisted fittings and AI-assisted eyewear are currently reshaping our industry. I’m actively integrating these trends into my practice and curriculum by staying current with emerging tools, collaborating with forward-thinking partners and emphasizing adaptability and creativity in education. The future is about merging tradition with tech to better serve both individuals and industries.
