It’s Halloween, the Season of Horror Stories About “Cosmetic” Contacts

One of the British tabloids has a doozy.

The annual Halloween rush of warnings against “cosmetic” contact lenses is underway, and, as is often the case, the U.K. Daily Mirror sets the bar for gross-out consequences. A young woman in Stratford-upon-Avon tells her tale of “zombie eyes,” purchased for a fete last year, that actually attached themselves to her eyeballs. Of course, she admits, she had had a bit to drink that night, and slept in the lenses. “I could only see a tiny bit of light when I finally did open my eyes. I then had to scrape the lenses out. It was awful.”
