It Was Most Definitely the Crack

Don’t follow this guy’s lead. Just say no to drugs, kids.

Several years ago, I was working at this practice where this guy, sketchy as can be, comes in with an outside Rx, and pays for his glasses in cash. We call him to let him know they were ready, but his phone number was no longer in service. He reappears several months later asking if he had purchased glasses from us. We dispense them, and he comes back several days later saying that he can’t see out of them. I told him that he needed to go back to the prescribing doctor to see what the issue with the Rx may be, and he says, “Maybe it has to do with me smoking crack on the day I had my exam.” I couldn’t help myself and told him, “You need to lay off of the drugs, dude.” He nodded, and left. Never saw him again. — Pablo E. Mercado, Optima Eyecare, Alpharetta, GA

A Patient at This PA Practice Definitely Jumped to the Wrong Conclusion

You know what they say about assumptions …

WE HAVE A patient, sort of an ass, who wanted to know where one of our employees had gone. The girl in front told him she’d gotten another job elsewhere. He said, “Oh, thought she was having a fling with the guy (me) that works here and it went wrong.” Now this is wrong for all sorts of reasons. One, I’m 60 and the girl that used to work here is 28. And two, she is my daughter. I would always hug my daughter and tell her I loved her when we left work. I’m sure he witnessed that one day and jumped to conclusions. — Rick Rickgauer, Vision Associates, Girard, PA

Sometimes Customers Need to Get There on Their Own

A tale of one customer who thought complaints alone would solve his problem.

A customer called with a complaint about his glasses. Our optician asked him several times to bring the glasses in so we could look at them, while the customer continued to complain. The optician finally said, “Sir, please hold them up to the phone so I can take a good look at them.” (This was before FaceTime.) The customer replied, “You can’t see them over the phone.” To which the optician replied, “You are correct, sir. Please bring them in.” — Bob McBeath, Edina Eye, Edina, MN
