Top business website Business Insider has released its list of the richest people in retail, and there’s one very familiar name in there for eyecare professionals. His name is Leonardo Del Vecchio, the 80-year-old founder and chairman of Luxottica, whom Business Insider ranks No. 15 on its list of the world’s richest people in retail with a total net worth of $19.7 billion. The article says that the world’s largest eyewear company – which owns Sunglass Hut, Ray-Ban and Oakley – now operates 10 factories worldwide with 35,000 employees who produce 65,000 pairs of glasses each day while holding “a veritable monopoly on the eyewear industry.”
