Luxottica to Cut 200+ US Jobs

The layoffs are set for Dec. 31.

More than 208 Luxottica workers will lose their jobs in Memphis, TN, the Commercial Appeal reports.

The company told Tennessee officials that the cuts at a facility in the city’s Hickory Hill community are planned for Dec. 31. Luxottica Retail North America submitted notice of the impending layoffs to the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development, according to the Commercial Appeal.

Luxottica, based in Milan, Italy, is the largest eyewear firm in the world, with a brand portfolio that includes names such as Ray-Ban and Oakley. Its retail division includes many well-known names, including LensCrafters, Sunglasses Hut and Pearle Vision.

Luxottica is planning a merger with Essilor, which makes lenses as well as instruments and equipment. The combined organization will be called EssilorLuxottica.
