A 52-year-old British man went for his first eye exam because he had been squinting at the television, and the routine test revealed bleeding behind one of his eyes. Within weeks, he was receiving chemotherapy for myeloma. Now recovering at home, Steve Trower credits that $33 optical coherence tomography test with saving his life. “I probably wouldn’t have been here today without the eye test,” he said. “I had been feeling a bit tired and run down but, if I’d been to see my GP first with these mild symptoms, there is very little chance they would have suspected anything as serious as this.”
