Senator Rick Jones of Grand Ledge MI is trying to stop eye-exam kiosks from setting up in malls and shopping centers in his state, claiming that the machine tests typically employed in these kiosks provide incomplete information that is potentially dangerous. At least one eyecare professional agrees: “My problem is some of these things may substitute (for a professional eye exam) and therefore people might not think that they have to see somebody and may neglect their eyesight and their general health,” says Dr. Tom Cowden of Grand Rapids Ophthalmology.
