Science knows that sunlight is good for young eyes, but why?

“There is research that suggests that children who are genetically predisposed to the visual deficit can improve their chances of avoiding eyeglasses just by stepping outside,” reports the Washington Post. “Why this is the case is not exactly clear.” A research team at the Ohio State University College of Optometry currently is pursuing several possible solutions to the riddle. “I think the research we are doing now will help us finally solve the mystery of the outdoor effect, and maybe help some people avoid a lifetime of wearing glasses,” says lead researcher Donald Mutti.
