New Study Says Blue Light from Screens May Be Too Weak to Cause Eye Damage

Researchers determined that standing underneath a clear blue sky poses greater risk.

A group of British researchers have conducted a new study that suggests the amount of blue light that is emitted from mobile devices isn’t enough to damage retinas, Fox News reports. The article cites the work of John O’Hagan, the lead author of the study whose team measured blue light emitted by various electronic devices and found that it was less than what a person is normally exposed to under a clear blue sky. “Even under extreme long-term viewing conditions, none of the low energy light bulbs, computers, tablets and mobile phones we assessed suggested cause for concern for public health,” he says. The researchers, however, do note that children may be more sensitive to blue light than adults, so parents should thus exercise caution.
