What used to be a cargo plane is now the Flying Eye Hospital, an instrument of nonprofit Orbis International that travels to developing countries and provides vision services to patients while training local practitioners, The Huffington Post writes. The article says that the program has been around since the 1970s, and in the past year the hospital has treated more than 2 million patients. “A 15-minute surgery is all most of these people need to restore their sight,” Orbis’ global medical director Dr. Jonathan Lord told the news outlet.
