Vitaly Borker, operator of online retailer OpticsFast.com, has been sentenced to two additional years in prison in connection with a scam operation.
That’s on top of the five years he’s already served, The Associated Press reports.
U.S. District Judge Paul Gardephe said he’d never seen anyone return “so quickly to exactly the same crime” even after a relatively harsh prison sentence.
The new sentence was issued because, after serving time behind bars, Borker began once again selling low-quality glasses online while claiming they were premium merchandise. He pleased guilty to one count of mail fraud, one count of wire fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud.
“Vitaly Borker twice perpetrated criminal schemes involving the online sale and repair of eyewear, and today he was rightfully sentenced to prison for a second time,” Manhattan U.S. Attorney Geoffrey S. Berman.
“Perhaps his second stint in federal prison will impress upon this shady businessman that seeking to make money by fraud and intimidation is a path to prison and not success.”

Borker previously was accused of “threatening to stalk, maim and murder customers of his online eyeglass store, DecorMyEyes.” He was convicted of fraud and served time. (The new case did not involve threats of violence.)
Borker violated probation after his 2015 release from prison and, as a result, last year was sentenced to two more years in prison.
