Service available only to those with existing prescriptions.
Opternative, a Chicago-based online eye exam company, has partnered with 1-800-Contacts to launch InstaRx, an online service that enables patients with existing prescriptions to update their prescriptions without seeing an optometrist in-person, MobiHealthNews reports. The service, the article says, is not intended for first-time visitors who didn’t previously see an eye doctor in-person.
According to the article, both companies ran a yearlong pilot study involving 5,500 patients before making InstaRx available to all 1-800-Contacts customers. The service is available to patients ages 18 to 50 wherever telemedicine services are legally permitted to operate. Opternative currently operates in 36 states but is banned in Georgia, Indiana and South Carolina.
