About 1,000 square feet will be added.

Southern College of Optometry is planning a $1 million construction project at its building in the Memphis Medical District, the Memphis Business Journal reports.

The work involves a diner as well as study areas and lockers. About 1,000 square feet of usable space will be added by enclosing balcony areas, according to the publication.

The renovation and expansion is taking place on the fourth floor of the 11-floor structure.

The building was constructed in the 1970s.
