Patients get a prescription after a 25-minute test.

Opternative – a Chicago startup that offers online refractive tests for $40 that produce prescriptions – has raised $6 million in funding that will be used to expand into more states, the Chicago Tribune reports. The article says that, currently, patients between the ages of 18 and 40 in 33 states can take a 25-minute eye test and then receive a prescription for contact lenses or glasses. “We’ve been slowly but steadily expanding into new states as we add new doctors into our network,” says co-founder Aaron Dallek. The company will also use the extra cash to improve its technology so that it can someday test patients older than 40.
