Prevent Blindnesschas chosen Ed Greene, retired CEO of The Vision Council, as the recipient of the 2015 Prevent Blindness Person of Vision Award.
The award will be presented at the Prevent Blindness Person of Vision Dinner oncMarch 19, 2015 at Gotham Hall, New York, N.Y., in conjunction with Vision Expo East.
The Prevent Blindness Person of Vision Award recognizes an individual for outstanding leadership and dedication in the field of vision and eye health.
Greene has been a dominant figure in the eyecare industry for decades. He became president and CEO of Titmus Optical in 1989. After nine years, he became president and CEO of Carl Zeiss Optical, Inc., and later vice president of business development. In 2006, Greene became CEO of The Vision Council, an industry group that represents the manufacturers and suppliers of the optical industry through education, advocacy and consumer outreach.
At Prevent Blindness, Greene began serving on the Board of Directors in 1987 and became the Board Chair from 1992 to 1995. He again served on the Board from 2004 to 2006. He also served on various Prevent Blindness committees including Strategic Planning (chair), Nominating, Development and Centennial Celebration.
The chairperson of the 2015 Prevent Blindness Person of Vision Committee is Ruedi Suter, president and chairman of PFO Global. Individual tickets for the event may be purchased for $350 or $3,500 for a table of 10.

The Vision Council is serving as the title sponsor of the event. Early table sponsorship commitments have been received by Reed Expo and Visibility Management. Additional sponsorship opportunities of varying levels are available. All proceeds from the event will go to support the sight-saving programs from Prevent Blindness.
