(PRESS RELEASE) January is Glaucoma Awareness Month, and because DMV residents have one of the highest rates of glaucoma in the country, the Prevention of Blindness Society of Metropolitan Washington is hosting two events in the coming weeks to provide free screenings and information on glaucoma.
On Saturday, January 28, nationally renowned Chevy Chase-based glaucoma specialist, Arthur Schwartz, M.D. will speak at 10 a.m. in Friendship Heights. He is available for interviews to discuss how anyone can identify the risk factors and signs of glaucoma.
Additionally, on Saturday, February 11, the Society will host a mega clinic, offering free vision screenings and eye exams in Alexandria, Virginia. Attendees are invited to join a free glaucoma workshop at 1p.m. hosted by Dr. Reena Garg, director for the ophthalmology residency program at Washington Hospital Center at Georgetown University. Dr. Garg is also available for on-air interviews and eye exam demonstrations.
