Primary Eyecare Network Offering Six Educational Events in April

ALAMEDA, CA – Primary Eyecare Network (PEN), a division of ABB Optical Group, will host six educational events this spring. PEN’s schedule includes:

Date: April 4-6

Title: Center for Paraoptometric Education
Location: Alameda, CA
Time: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily
Cost: $495 per person for PEN members; $625 per person for non-members
About: Led by Mary Schmidt, ABOC, CPO, and Jill Leubbert, ABOC, CPOT, this three-day program will get newer staff members up to speed on the fundamentals of the optical department. It will cover basic duties as well as troubleshooting and problem solving. Topics include fundamental optics; understanding prescriptions; RX verification; lens types, materials and treatments; PD measurements; frames and frame materials; frame styling and selling skills; frame repairs and frame adjusting; tips for success; and more.

Title: Locum Tenens Billing
Location: Live online webinar
Time: 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. PST
Cost: Free for PEN members; $15 per practice for non-members
About: Led by Rebecca Douglas, CPOC, this webinar will cover billing practices for substitute doctors who are not members of a practice.

Date: April 26

Title: Frame Adjusting Workshop
Location: Irvine, Calif.Time: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. PST
Cost: $95 per person for PEN members; $140 per person for non-members
About: Led by Mindi Lewis, ABOC, FNAO, this hands-on workshop will cover the fundamentals of frame adjusting. Topics include front-to-back, custom adjustment techniques on both plastic and metal frames, as well as troubleshooting and problem adjustments. The workshop is worth two ABO credit hours.

Title: Frame Selection Workshop
Location: Irvine, Calif.
Time: 1 to 4 p.m. PST
Cost: $95 per person for PEN members; $140 per person for non-members
About: Also led by Mindi Lewis, ABOC, FNAO, this workshop will cover selecting comfortable and attractive eyewear that best meets patients’ vision needs. Worth two ABO credit hours, the workshop will feature up-to-date collections of designer frames and is recommended for all optical staff.

Title: Basic Lensometry
Location: Irvine, Calif.
Time: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Cost: $95 per person for PEN members; $140 per person for non-members
About: Also worth two ABO credit hours and led by Mindi Lewis, ABOC, FNAO, this hands-on workshop will introduce beginners to basic lensometry with lectures and plenty of practice. Students will learn the use, care and principles of the lensometer, and gain practical skills to measure the powers of single vision sphere and cylinder lenses, as well as lined multifocal lenses.

Title: Advanced Lensometry
Location: Irvine, Calif.
Time: 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Cost: $95 per person for PEN members; $140 per person for non-members
About: This workshop is for individuals who already have a basic understanding of single vision and lined multifocal lenses. Attendees can increase their value to their patients and their practice by taking their skills to the next level. Learn how to measure prescribed and un-prescribed prism and progressive lens powers. Also led by Mindi Lewis, ABOC, FNAO and pending two ABO credit hours.
