All Aboard

L’Amy Group has signed into an exclusive multi-year agreement with Chris-Craft to design, manufacture and distribute a premium collection of branded ophthalmic and sunglasses frames for men and women. Founded in 1874, Chris-Craft is a luxury American boat and yacht manufacturer. The collection will balance innovative design and high-quality materials and be introduced during the Silmo 2018.

The AAO named the recipients of the 2018 Student Travel Fellowship Awards to present their research at the 2018 ARVO annual meeting. Recipients are: Jessica Jasien, University of Alabama Birmingham, School of Optometry; Daisy Shu, BOptom(Hons)/BSci, University of New South Wales, School of Optometry and Vision Science; Laura Pardon, OD, MS, FAAO, University of Houston, College of Optometry; Katie Bales, University of Alabama Birmingham, School of Optometry; and Hannah Burfield, University of Houston, College of Optometry (supported by Johnson and Johnson, The Vision Care Institute), as well as Billie Beckwith-Cohen, DVM, MBA, FAAO, University of California Berkeley, School of Optometry (supported by the AAO).

2017 Health Highlights

Global Data identified three 2017 digital highlights for the ophthalmology market. One, researchers in South Korea developed a smart contact lens that continuously and wirelessly monitors glucose and intraocular pressure. Second, EyeQue developed the first in-home vision testing solution to combine an optical miniscope, a smartphone application, and secure cloud-based technology for low-cost and precise measurement gathering. Lastly, Peek Vision launched Peek Retina, a smartphone camera adapter for retinal imaging which examines the optic nerve and macula to identify diseases such as glaucoma, cataract, diabetic retinopathy, and AMD.

Optometry Cares and the AOA announced the winners of the following scholarships for 2018: The Vision West, Inc. Scholarship for InfantSEE, Peter Jacques, University of Missouri-St. Louis College of Optometry ($7,500) and Lindsay Estel, Southern College of Optometry ($3,000); the Bernard Maitenaz Scholarship, sponsored by Essilor, Spencer Lin, SALUS University ($10,000); the Dr. Pat and Patrick Cummings Scholarship, Kathleen Hoang, State University of New York College of Optometry ($5,000); the Dr. Seymour Galina Scholarship, Charlotte Love, Michigan College of Optometry at Ferris ($2,500); and the Dr. Larry J.
