OWA Names 2017 Award Recipients

Each year the Optical Women’s Association (OWA) recognizes women in the industry. In 2017, Kate Renwick-Espinosa of VSP Vision Care will receive the Pleiades award and Lorie Lippiatt of Salem Eyecare Center will receive the Pyxis. In honor of their 20th anniversary, Corinne McCormick of FGXI, will receive the OWA Pinnacle Award. They’ll be honored at events on March 30 and April 1. INFO: opticalwomen.com

Applications Open for Joanne Angle Investigator Award

Prevent Blindness is seeking applications for its 2017 Joanne Angle Investigator Award. The award is a grant provided annually to a public health research project that seeks to put an end to unnecessary vision loss. The deadline for applicants is March 6, 2017, at 12 p.m. (ET). Grants are for a one-year period, up to $25,000, reviewed by a panel of experts, and commence on July 1, 2017. INFO: preventblindness.org

Vision Impact Institute Announces New Leadership

The Vision Impact Institute (VII) has announced the leadership transition from President Maureen Cavanagh to Kristan Gross, who recently served as the organization’s director of global content and communications. Gross has been with Essilor of America since 2007 and began her new role effective Jan. 1, 2017. In the coming months, she will build her team in Dallas and other parts of the world. Vision Council's New Digital Eye Strain, Blue Light Survey

The Vision Council has announced the results of a nationwide survey detailing the effects and implications of blue light. The organization commissioned its latest survey of 9,840 American adults nationwide and found that 68.5 percent reported they have not discussed their digital device usage with their ECP, and 73.5 percent said they did not know eyewear can be used to protect the eyes from the short- and long-term effects of blue light exposure and digital eye strain, among other findings. Charmant Signs License for Eddie Bauer Eyewear

Charmant signed an exclusive licensing agreement with Eddie Bauer to design, manufacture and distribute Eddie Bauer branded eyewear. The eyewear collection of ophthalmic frames and sunglass styles will launch in March and retail in North America, Europe and Asia. INFO: charmant.com
