Do You Or Don't You Raise Your Hand if You Still Use Paper Charts Published 8 years ago on December 28, 2016 By INVISION Staff Share Tweet Yes: 38% We are small and the cost involved in converting to a computer system probably wouldn’t be worth it. I prefer something I can grab and look at. I use 4X6 index cards, have for 20+ years. I don’t have an optometrist so I have no one to answer to! — Jennifer Leuzzi, Mill Creek Optical, Dansville, NY We don’t prefer paper we just haven’t found a system that fits all of our needs well enough to make the investment. — Bob McBeath, Edina Eye, Edina, MN All our optical records are electronic and on paper since my coworker is old school and wants the paper. — Dorothy Reynolds, Optical Alternatives, Milford, CT We are in the transition period changing to EMR. Once the change is completed we will cease using paper charts. — Martha Downing, Advanced Ophthalmology Associates, Clawson, MI Doc still prefers paper but knows we have to go electronic sooner or later so we have Revolution in place. We’re using the system to make appointments and keep inventory for now. — Jeff Grosekemper, Casa De Oro Eyecare, Spring Valley, CA No: 62% We have a few offices still using paper but we are all on EHR. We use Compulink in all of our offices, even the paper ones. It’s a positive when all the needed info is in the system. A negative of the combo is going back and forth for the medical information and having to manually input that into the EHR for orders. — William Chancellor, DePoe Eye Center, McDonough, GA Crystal Practice Management. It is simple, straight forward, and is not a data collecting device for some large vision service corporation. — GR McGuirt, OD, 20/20 Vision Clinic, Lake Charles, LA We’ve used Revolution since 2012; a great all-in-one system they improve constantly. Simple to understand for new employees. Cons are internet reliance and updates could be made sooner. — Katie McElvaine, OD, Springfield Family Vision, Springfield, MO We use OfficeMate for the optical and Eyefinity for the doctor’s side. They’re great on their own but don’t always work together like we would like them to. — Joselle Stumph, EyeGuys Optical, Spokane, WA We use Compulink. Pro is we don’t have to “search” for charts. Con is it’s hard to put personal comments about patients, like they retired, or what their favorite cat’s name is. — Selina McGee, OD, Precision Vision, Edmond, OK This article originally appeared in the January 2017 edition of INVISION.
