Updated Degree Standards

As of Jan. 1, the Accreditation Council on Optometric Education (ACOE) has recognized new Professional Optometric Degree Program Standards applicable to both existing and prospective optometric degree programs. Key updates include alignment between standards for developing programs and existing ones; standardizing terminology to help set clear benchmarks for all accredited programs; setting expectations for alternative pathways to a Doctor of Optometry degree that is distinct from a traditional program; requiring evidence of Standards adherence; and a focus on continuous quality improvement through benchmarking and self-assessment to identify performance gaps and taking appropriate action. theacoe.org
