Von’s Vision Foundation continues charitable eyecare work

Von Miller is a Denver Broncos legend. He is a two-time Super Bowl champion and a future Hall of Famer.

But there’s more to Miller and his revered status in the Mile High City than stellar play as a linebacker. His charitable work off the playing field is just as legendary as his play on it.

Miller has prioritized giving back to the community since he entered the NFL in 2011. He’s volunteered his time at numerous events. He created Von’s Vision, a foundation focused on providing low-income students with eyecare and eyewear. And while he may not be a Bronco anymore – he was traded to the Los Angeles Rams midway through last season before signing a lucrative six-year deal with the Buffalo Bills this offseason – his heart remains in Colorado.

Miller was back in Denver recently to host his 3rd annual “A Night to Take Flight” fundraiser. The event, which featured Miller alongside a handful of current Broncos players, raised more than $300,000. All proceeds went to Von’s Vision.

“Everywhere we go we bring Von’s Vision with us,” said Miller in a recap video of the event. “That could be in K.C. (Kansas City). That can be in Los Angeles. That can be in Las Vegas. Everywhere we go we try to, you know, help out. And this is where it started.”

Now in its 10th year, Von’s Vision has raised more than $4 million and helped provide free eye exams and glasses to more than 8,500 students in nine states.

CooperVision, Optometry Giving Sight team up to aid Special Olympics athletes

More than 5,000 athletes and coaches participated this past June in the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games in Orlando, Fla.

CooperVision and Optometry Giving Sight were on hand, too. The contact lens manufacturer and the eyecare nonprofit coordinated with the Special Olympics Opening Eyes program. The combined effort helped provide vision screenings for athletes and clinical training for 79 eyecare professionals and students.

Last year, CooperVision and Optometry Giving Sight announced a $150,000 commitment through 2023 to support Opening Eyes in providing vision screenings, training of ECPs, and education resources

Special Olympics Opening Eyes was founded in 2001. The program has provided more than 440,00 screenings and more than 260,000 prescription glasses and goggles to people with intellectual disabilities.
