Shamir Insight, manufacturer of premium Freeform progressive lenses, has announced the launch of its new AR Coating, Glacier PLUS UV.
Shamir developed a premium anti-reflective coating for lenses that helps patients look their best, see their best and feel safe.
Glacier PLUS UV will be available starting April 2.
Glacier PLUS UV is a highly revolutionary premium coating due to three main components: the base, the hard coat and the AR coat. The base used for Glacier PLUS UV coating is the Shamir Certified Blank; Shamir scientists developed the coating based on the specific properties and characteristics of their unique substrates. The hard coat used for the Glacier PLUS UV coating is customized based on which particular molecular properties work best with Shamir’s specific lens materials, producing a unique Material Match Hard Coat process. The Glacier PLUS UV AR Coating stack has been developed as a precise “recipe” based on each lens material and customized hard coat.
Glacier PLUS UV offers premium cosmetics by following a controlled “build” of the Shamir Application layers onto the Shamir blank, which allows patients to experience dramatically reduced glare with Shamir’s innovative Matte Finish as well as minimized “Rainbows” with their Newton Ring Reduction Technology, providing a clear distraction-free view of their eyes and crisp vision.
Shamir’s innovative Matte Finish produces an AR that provides dramatically reduced cosmetic glare on the lens and reduces visual glare for the wearer. Glacier PLUS UV’s Newton Ring Reduction Technology uses a Material Match process that ensures dramatically reduced Newton Rings (birefringence).

Glacier PLUS UV has a unique Slippery PLUS hydrophobic and oleophobic top layer that repels liquids and allows effortless cleaning for the patient. Glacier PLUS UV boasts a contact angle consistently ranging from 115-118 degrees.

Shamir Glacier PLUS UV is available on all Shamir Freeform lens designs and provides another opportunity for practices participating in Shamir’s ReCreating Perfect Vision (RCPV) Rewards Program to earn rewards points. ECP’s will earn 750 points for each Glacier PLUS UV pair dispensed, but sales will not count toward the 15 pair minimum.
